I know that being 23 years old is not old, however, I have started to notice lines, spots and dry patches on my skin that weren’t there before. My beautiful imperfections inspired me to share my top beauty habits you should start in your 20s. Of course, age is inevitable, but you have slow down the signs of aging with these simple tips. What do you guys do to battle early fine lines and wrinkles?

Limit Shampooing

Everyone except my hair colorist looks at me crazy when I say I only wash my hair 3 times a day. The truth is, the longer you can go without shampooing, the better. You are stripping the hair of its natural oils when you wash too often. This ends up making your hair brittle and frizzy.

Get Outside More

Just because you are not a kid anymore doesn’t mean that your skin doesn’t need to see the sun. It might be hard to escape from the walls of your job, school, and home. But getting outside a few minutes a day can have a dramatic effect on your mood and health. Your skin absorbs the vitamin D from the sun like a sponge, which helps keep us healthy. Find a few minutes every day to appreciate the fresh air.

Drink Lemon Water

Drinking a glass of lemon water in the morning can do wonders for your metabolism and energy levels. Even if you are a caffeine drinker at least have a glass before your cup of coffee. Lemon water can also improve your digestive system and even make drinking your coffee easier. Lemons also alkaline-balance the body, which can strengthen your immune system and prevent cancer.

Don’t Fall Asleep With Makeup On

The worse thing you can do for your skin is to sleep in your makeup. Make it your goal in your 20s to develop a solid, yet simple nightly routine. Even if you have to stash makeup wipes in your nightstand. When you don’t take your makeup off, your pillow collects oil and bacteria, which cycle back into your skin. Gross. Have a nightly game plan ladies. This also helps to tell your body that you are transitioning into rest mode.

Exfoliate Often

A lot of women with dry skin simply aren’t exfoliating enough. Of course, you don’t want to be too rough on your skin, but you need to clean out the oil and dirt trapped in your pores. There are a lot of different ways to exfoliate. Dry brushing is excellent for exfoliating and increasing your blood circulation. I love using body scrubs a few times a week to slough off the dead skin.

Take Cold Showers

I know this sounds crazy, but taking a cold shower in the morning can raise your energy and set a healthy tone for the rest of the day. You don’t even have to take a full 20-minute freezing shower. At least spend the last 5 minutes with the bone-chilling water keeping you company. Studies have actually found a lot of health benefits linked to cold showers. I wrote a whole blog post on this topic you can find right here.

Moisturize Your Skin

Your daily moisturizer does more than you think. Not only does it keep your skin hydrated, but it also protects you from bacteria by acting as a barrier. Moisturize at least once a day to keep your skin looking fresh. I always apply my moisturizers right after I get out of the shower. I pat myself until I’m not soaking wet and then lather on the lotion. Don’t forget to slather it on your neck and use a moisturizer with a good SPF.

Coconut Oil Hair Treatment

Even if you aren’t destroying your hair with heat or dyes, your locks go through a lot on the daily. Cigarettes, pollution, the sun, and weather can all have a major effect on your hair. An easy weekly treatment can bring volume and shine back into your hair. Take however much coconut oil you need and warm it up in the microwave for a few seconds. Saturate the oil throughout your hair and let it sit for 30 minutes or overnight. After you wash out the coconut oil, your hair will be soft and easier to manage.

Clean Up Your Diet

Last year I had to finally tell myself “You’re not 15 anymore, which means you can’t eat whatever you want”. This is so true. If you are like me and struggle to health perfectly green and healthy all the time, don’t worry. At least try to incorporate greens, fruit and plenty of water in your diet every day for glowing skin and hair.

Wear Sunscreen ??
