Why You Should Have A Night Time Routine
I’m the type of person who takes a long time to unwind and even a longer time falling asleep. It’s like my body doesn’t know when to shut down. I finally decided to create a night-time routine that helps me get a jump start on my day. Don’t you hate when you fall asleep on top of your laptop with mascara and lipstick smeared across your face? I know there aren’t enough hours in a day, but there’s no excuse for you not to take an hour to relax and prepare for the next day. It’s a good to wake up in the mornings knowing I have an agenda and goals to meet. So, if you don’t have an evening ritual, I hope this inspires you to start one!

7 Tips For A Great Night Time Routine
Make Sure The House Is Clean
Although I like to do housework during the day, sometimes it’s good to take a few minutes to look around. Add the last few dishes in the sink to the dishwasher, fold a load of towels, or give the dogs fresh water before you go to bed. This always saves me time in the morning to get ready.
Make A Cup Of Tea
Once I realize my day is coming to an end, I put on a pot of boiling water. There’s something comforting and relaxing about a cup of hot tea. This is an indicator that I need to shut off my brain as I browse Instagram & Twitter one last time.
My skin is very pale and dry, so I make sure it’s a priority every day and night. I have a pretty simple routine, but it gets the job done. The foundation I’m using now is pretty waterproof, so I like to use a makeup wipe to start with a clean canvas. Then, I wash my face with my daily cleanser to remove dirt and oil. Sometimes I make DIY facial sugar scrubs to exfoliate my skin. A lot of store-bought facial scrubs are too harsh, so I prefer the homemade alternative. The moisturizer I use is awesome for dry, combination or sensitive skin types. And last but not least, I coat my lips with a little chapstick to protect them while I sleep.
Makeup Remover: I usually have stubborn makeup left on my face even after I cleanse. Now, makeup remover wipes are my best friend.
Facial Cleanser: I’ve been using this Aveeno ultra-calming foaming cleanser.. It does a great job at keeping my skin breakout free. It’s gentle enough to use a few pumps in the morning and at night. I’ve also been using this little facial massager, which helps to get even deeper into my pores.
Exfoliant: Sometimes I get fancy and make a diy facial scrub. But most of the time, I use traditional white sugar. After I wash my face I gently scrub raw sugar in my skin.
Moisturizer: While my skin is still a little wet, I rub a small amount of face lotion in my skin. Yes, I bought the matching cleanser and moisturizer. The formula goes on smooth underneath my makeup and doesn’t make my skin oily. It’s definitely worth it.
Lip Balm: My lips are always thirsty, so I just coat my lips a few times with my chapstick for overnight protection.
My teeth have been an important part of my morning and night time routine. I like to floss right after dinner and use my water pic for a few minutes before brushing. Recently, I have been trying coconut oil pulling. I can’t wait to show you my results!
Review and Plan To Do List
I toss and turn thinking about what I need to do the next day. What blog posts I need to write or what photography I want to add on my Instagram. I highly recommend a planner or notebook -anywhere you can keep your task list close. I feel more organized the next day knowing I have a list of things to do. This helps me focus on what is important and prevents me from procrastinating.
Lay Out Clothes For The Next Day
This is one less choice I have to make in the morning and saves me time. I love being able to throw on an outfit I planned the night before. Sometimes I like to lay out my outfits for a few days for Instagram or blog photos as well.
Turn Off Technology
I pretty much mean my phone. I like to watch a movie or a few episodes of my favorite shows. My laptop is always the last thing I shut off. You never know when a sudden Pinterest spurt might happen.
