What I Bought At Ulta
Hey, guys! I recently filmed a video all about my Ulta haul (which you can check out down below). But since I’ve tried these products a few more times now, I wanted to write a post a little more about the makeup. I hope you enjoy and let me know if you’ve tried any of these products.
NYX Matte Finish Setting Spray
Honestly, I am new to the makeup game and late to the setting spray train. My makeup would slide off my face halfway through the day before setting spray. I tried the Urban Decay setting spray a few years ago and this is not much different. Of course except for the price. Unless you just like to spend money, I’d grab the NYX setting spray any day. After I have on a full face of makeup, I spritz this spray all over and then dab it out with a beauty blender.
I notice a huge difference in my makeup staying on. After I dab it all out, my face just looks airbrushed and perfectly matte. My foundation, bronzer, eyeshadows, and concealer do not move around. It seems like all the colors, creams, and powders are pretty set in their place. Keep in mind, I have combination skin most of the year. I think when my face is dry, I would go with the dewy finish.
NYX HD Studio Finishing Powder
I have mixed feelings about this product, but I don’t think I will be purchasing it again. I just dab this underneath my eyes after my foundation and concealer are on. (And around the rest of my face) Starting with the positives, it is very easy to apply and lightweight to wear on the skin. I also feel like it helps control any shine you might get on your T-zone.
Unfortunately, this powder gives you horrible flashback. It’s so white and reflective, that I look like a ghost. Also, by the time I am done applying it, my bathroom counter looks like that scene from Scarface.
NYX Hi Definition Photo Concealer
This was another product that I might not buy again. However, I do like this more than the powder. I only really use concealer under my eyes or to clean up my eyeshadow. It is blendable and has great pigmentation. The color “porcelain” seems to fit my pale skin and blended in nicely with my foundation.
I feel like I have to put a lot of product on because it does not have the coverage I like in a concealer. It is a little too runny and liquidy for me as well. However, it doesn’t crease as long as you apply setting powder over the concealer.
Makeup Revolution Strobe Highlighter
If I’m being honest, I really like the e.l.f. highlighter better and it’s only $3. I just wanted to experiment with a different brand. I bought this in the shade “Ever Glow Lights”. It looks and feels like you will get a nice glow, but it’s a little too faint for a highlight. It’s so powdery and lightweight that your brush will look like it’s not picking up the product. The highlight not only comes up sheen, but doesn’t really last long on the skin. If you are looking for a very subtle highlight. The color might also be a little too light if you have a darker or tanner skin tone.
NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil
I have seen girls use this eye pencil in the shade “milk” to use as an eyeshadow base. It definitely cancels out any discoloration or veins on your eyelids. The pencil almost goes on creamy and a little goes a long way. Which is good because you can’t sharpen the pencil, so it looks like there is not a lot of product.
Makeup Revolution Ulta Eyeshadow Palette
I bought this palette in “Affirmation”. You do get 32 shades, however, they do look very similar. I also wish that there were more mattes to work with, but that’s just my preference. I find that they are easy to blend, but the color pay off is not that great. You also don’t get a lot of each shade, which is a downside since you have to use so much of the product. Overall, I wouldn’t buy this again, but it is a nice started palette for beginners to play with the mattes and shimmers.
NYX Brow Gel
Being a woman with very fair and thin brows, I have tried many eyebrow waxes, powders, pomades, gels. With that being said, the NYX Brow Gel is the best product that I’ve found that works for me. I bought this in the shade “blonde”. However, I do wish it came in a shade lighter, but you can use a light hand. I use a small angled brush and trace over and fill in my eyebrows. I also set my brows with setting powder so they aren’t sliding off my face. And this brow gel is super smooth and easy to apply. My roommate said that my brows were almost like “Instagram brows” when I started wearing this (just to give you an idea of how great this stuff is).
Loreal Voluminous Million Lashes
I love the wand and bristles on this mascara. This was another product I was super happy with. For some reason when I use Maybelline’s mascaras they seem to dry out my lashes and look clumped together. The Million Lashes works so well to lengthen and define each lash. I was pleasantly surprised and would definitely buy this again. I noticed my lashes were longer and more voluminous. The only downside is that it is a little bit difficult to remove.
